Everything well packaged?
A packaging may be sufficient for direct house to house carriage without transshipment. But is same packaging adequate to cope with the stress when being transported as consolidated cargo, on different means of transport and with multiply warehouse transfers?
Reports on packaging reveal weak points and give hints for improvement. Is it possible to secure the cargo properly on a truck, a railcar, in a container, or on board a ship? What about an off-centre centre of gravity? Should I choose VCI packaging or is a hermetically heat sealed aluminum compound foil packaging with desiccant better? Tip and shock indicators to be used? Free space left unsecured on a pallet deck?
There are many questions to be answered. Often simple, cheap arrangements give a quick improvement without that an expensive, complex new packaging design has to be developed.
